Intercom alternative for online stores: what each tool is
Intercom (since 2026 under the name Fin) describes itself as a customer agent company for support, sales and commerce. More than 30,000 companies use its products, according to the company. The helpdesk is still sold as Intercom plans, with the Fin AI Agent, a messenger for websites and apps, and channels from email to SMS and Slack. Ecommerce is one of several verticals, served by “Fin for Ecommerce”. Since September 2026, Fin has been part of Salesforce.
Sondercase does one job: post-purchase support for online stores on Shopify and WooCommerce. Order status, returns, warranty claims, cancellations, address changes, product and policy questions. It reads live order and tracking data, replies fully automatically if you want, and fully prepares the store action for you to release with one click.
Intercom and Fin pricing: seats plus $0.99 per outcome
Intercom bills per seat per month, and in US dollars only. List prices from Intercom:
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | $29 | $39 |
| Advanced | $85 | $99 |
| Expert | $132 | $139 |
List prices per Intercom’s help center (as of 13 October 2026). Intercom is currently showing some visitors a lower Essential price of $19 (annual) or $29 (monthly) on its pricing page.
On top of seats, the Fin AI Agent costs $0.99 per outcome. Intercom counts an outcome when a customer confirms the issue is resolved, when they do not ask for more help after Fin responds, or when Fin completes a Procedure, including handoffs. Fin’s pricing page also lists Procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routing as billable outcomes at $0.99. According to Fin, there is no charge when a conversation is simply passed to your team without an outcome. Copilot, the AI assistant for your agents, costs $29 per agent per month billed annually or $35 monthly.
Worked example. Assumptions: 2 seats, monthly billing, Essential plan, 100 or 300 Fin outcomes per month, no Copilot, no pay-as-you-go channels.
| 100 outcomes | 300 outcomes | |
|---|---|---|
| Seats: 2 × $39 | $78 | $78 |
| Fin outcomes at $0.99 | $99 | $297 |
| Intercom per month | $177 | $375 |
| Sondercase per month | €39 (Starter) | €89 (Growth) |
With annual billing, the Intercom figures are $157 and $355; Sondercase billed yearly costs €29 and €69 per month. At the lower Essential price Intercom is testing, the worked example comes to $157 and $355 per month on monthly billing. If you need EU data hosting, you need at least Advanced (list price 2 × $85 = $170 per month billed annually, before outcomes) plus a contract through Intercom’s sales team; contract pricing is not published. Because Intercom bills in dollars, the euro amount on your statement also moves with the exchange rate. Sondercase Starter includes 150 AI drafts and 15 store actions (about 100 resolved cases); a store with many refunds or cancellations will land on Growth with 750 drafts and 75 actions (about 400 resolved cases).
Store actions: built in vs Procedures you review and set live
Fin for Ecommerce connects natively to Shopify and syncs catalog and order data. Post-purchase work such as order status, returns, refunds, exchanges and cancellations runs through Procedures: with Shopify, Fin for Ecommerce drafts them automatically for common post-purchase requests, and you review each step and click “Set live”. Procedures can include a human-in-the-loop step, so a teammate approves a refund before Fin continues. In the inbox, Intercom’s own Shopify app lets agents edit shipping addresses, cancel orders and issue full refunds.
Sondercase ships these actions ready to use. For every case it reads the order, tracking status and customer history. Replies can run fully automatically, category by category, each with a confidence score and its reasoning. The refund, cancellation or address change, the return case in the returns portal, where the customer gets the return label, or a replacement order comes fully prepared under rules you set; one click from you and it is done in your store. Uncertain cases go to a person instead of being guessed. How this differs from a chatbot is explained in our guide to AI customer service.
WooCommerce and Shopify
For WooCommerce, Intercom names a catalog connector rather than a native integration. Sondercase connects natively to WooCommerce and Shopify, with the same store actions and live tracking for DHL, DPD, GLS and more on both.
Channels: email first
Intercom covers a wide range: its messenger on web, iOS and Android, email, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, SMS, Slack and, for select customers working with its sales team, phone through Fin Voice. WhatsApp, SMS and phone are billed pay-as-you-go.
Sondercase focuses on the channels where store customers write: your existing support inbox, plus WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, all included in every plan. Replies go out in the customer’s language and in your brand’s tone.
Data protection and the German market
Fin (formerly Intercom) has been part of Salesforce since September 2026 and has offices in San Francisco, Dublin and Berlin, among others. Under its terms, customers outside the US and Brazil contract with Intercom R&D Unlimited Company in Dublin. EU data hosting in Dublin is available only for new workspaces on the Advanced and Expert plans with a contract; existing customers need a new workspace, and historical conversations cannot be migrated. The interface is available in German, with the Fin AI Agent settings partially localized.
Sondercase is a German company based in Dresden. Data is processed in the EU first wherever a provider allows it, third-country processors such as the AI model are covered by EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the Data Privacy Framework, and every subprocessor is named in the privacy policy. The DPA is concluded automatically at onboarding. German consumer law, such as the right of withdrawal and statutory warranty, is the floor for every decision.
Switching from Intercom without risk
There is no migration project. Connect your support inbox and your store, and Sondercase starts in draft mode: nothing is sent or executed until you approve it. Once the replies are right, you switch them to automatic category by category. Setup is guided and needs no engineering.
- Live demo on the homepage: enter your store domain and watch Sondercase resolve a real support case from your store, using only public store data. No signup.
- 14-day free trial: no credit card, cancel monthly, 30-day money-back guarantee, no setup fee.
Conclusion
Intercom and Fin suit companies that want one AI agent across support, sales and product, on many channels, and that have people to review and maintain Procedures and set up data connectors. For a Shopify or WooCommerce store whose tickets are about orders, returns and refunds, Sondercase is the more direct Intercom alternative: replies fully automatic if you want, store actions built in and ready for your approval, native WooCommerce, and one flat price in euros with your whole team included.
