Why stores look for a Gorgias alternative
Gorgias calls its AI Agent “built specifically for ecommerce” and focuses on Shopify. A few facts from Gorgias’ own pricing page and help center explain why merchants compare Gorgias competitors, especially outside the US and outside Shopify:
- The AI Agent is Shopify only. Gorgias’ compatibility table lists AI Agent and Order Management (self-service) for Shopify, not for WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento or PrestaShop. A WooCommerce store gets the helpdesk without the AI Agent.
- Native AI order edits are for unfulfilled orders. Cancel order, edit shipping address, remove an item: Gorgias documents these for unfulfilled Shopify orders, and notes that cancellations and address changes stay in Shopify while 3PL apps are not updated automatically. Its free reship action covers lost or damaged parcels; no pre-built AI action that refunds a delivered order is documented.
- Return labels need another app. Gorgias’ Order Management lets customers of Shopify stores request a return that your team then approves and processes; a returns portal with labels comes from apps such as Loop Returns, with their own pricing.
- Two meters, in US dollars. Plans are priced per billable ticket (Starter $10 per month for 50 tickets, Basic $60 monthly for 300, Pro $360 monthly for 2,000), and, per Gorgias’ pricing FAQ, each automated AI Agent interaction costs $0.90 (annual) or $1.00 (monthly), $1.50 above the plan allowance. A billable ticket is any conversation with a message from a human agent, a Rule or the AI Agent, and each AI Agent interaction also counts as a ticket.
- A US company with EU servers for EU merchants. Gorgias Inc. is based in San Francisco and its DPA relies on EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Its AI Agent security FAQ says that merchants in the EU get a server in the EU; its subprocessor list also names US-based subprocessors such as OpenAI (as of 30 October 2026).
A worked example. A store with about 400 conversations a month on Gorgias Basic, billed monthly: $60 covers 300 tickets, the other 100 cost $0.40 each, so $100 per month for the helpdesk alone. Adding AI Agent costs another $30 per month for 30 automated interactions ($130 in total), and each automated interaction above those 30 costs $1.50. Sondercase Growth costs €89 per month (€69 billed yearly) for the whole team, with 750 AI drafts and 75 store actions, roughly 400 resolved cases.
What to look for in a Gorgias alternative
- AI actions on your shop system, including WooCommerce if you run it, and on delivered orders, not only unfulfilled ones.
- Returns in the same flow, with portal and labels, rather than a separate app.
- A price you can plan: per ticket plus per interaction, per seat plus usage, or flat.
- Automation with control: replies automatic per category, store actions with a quick release, escalation of uncertain cases.
- EU and language: company location, hosting, DPA, and German consumer law if you sell in the DACH region.
- The effort to switch: what you have to rebuild, and whether you can test on your own store before you move.
1. Sondercase: the Gorgias alternative for Shopify and WooCommerce
Who it is for: small and mid-sized online stores on Shopify, WooCommerce or both, especially in the DACH region.
Pricing basis: flat monthly plans in EUR, all features and the whole team included. Starter €39 per month (€29 billed yearly) for 150 AI drafts and 15 store actions, about 100 resolved cases; Growth €89 (€69 yearly) for 750 drafts and 75 actions, about 400 cases; Scale €199 (€159 yearly) for 2,500 drafts and 250 actions, about 1,500 cases. No per-ticket, per-seat or per-resolution fees.
Strengths: Sondercase resolves post-purchase cases end to end: WISMO and tracking, returns, warranty and defect claims, cancellations, address changes, product and policy questions. It reads live order data, carrier tracking (DHL, DPD, GLS and more) and customer history in Shopify and WooCommerce. Replies can run fully automatically, per category; uncertain cases go to a person. Refunds, cancellations, address changes and replacement orders come fully prepared with a confidence score and reasoning, and you release them with one click. Returns run through the built-in returns portal with labels, so no separate returns app is needed. Email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook are included in every plan.
Data and setup: company based in Dresden, Germany; EU-first processing; DPA concluded automatically at onboarding; German consumer law such as the right of withdrawal treated as a floor. Guided setup with no engineering and no migration; 14-day trial without credit card.
Limits: Shopify and WooCommerce only; email and messenger channels rather than voice, SMS or live chat. Full comparison: Sondercase vs. Gorgias.
2. Richpanel: the Gorgias alternative for larger Shopify support teams
Who it is for: Richpanel addresses teams that “outgrew their helpdesk”, and its AI helpdesk page says it is not a fit for teams with fewer than 3 agents or under 500 tickets a month.
Pricing basis: per seat plus metered AI, in US dollars. Richpanel’s AI helpdesk page lists $99 per seat and AI at about $0.20 per conversation with a $200 monthly minimum. The pricing page currently served shows PRO at $69 and PRO MAX at $99 per agent per month on yearly contracts, and the Shopify App Store listing shows PRO at $89 per month or $828 per year plus AI conversations from $0.20 each (as of 30 October 2026). Returns & Exchanges is an add-on from $109 per month per its returns page, with the final quote based on return volume.
Strengths: low AI cost per conversation, refunds, cancellations, account changes and subscription edits as AI actions on every plan, a native returns and exchanges add-on, broad channels including phone and TikTok Shop, and an advertised money-back guarantee if the AI does not reach 50% resolution.
Limits: default hosting in the US; only 360dialog (WhatsApp, Germany) is outside the US. For EU-only processing, contact Richpanel before signing. Prices are in US dollars. More: Sondercase vs. Richpanel.
3. eDesk: the Gorgias alternative for marketplace sellers
Who it is for: sellers on Amazon, eBay, Kaufland, Walmart, Mirakl and TikTok Shop alongside Shopify, WooCommerce or Shopware. Operated by xSellco Limited in Dublin, with data processed in the UK and the EEA.
Pricing basis: per agent per month in US dollars: Essential $45 billed yearly or $55 monthly (1 store or marketplace), Growth $99 or $125 (5), Professional $129 or $159 (10) (as of 30 October 2026). AI Agent $0.99 per outcome, charged once per ticket and only when the AI answers or takes action.
Strengths: marketplace coverage, AI procedures that approve, decline or escalate returns and cancellations, 14-day trial without card. Limits: per-agent pricing plus outcomes; connected stores capped by plan. More: Sondercase vs. eDesk.
4. Fin (formerly Intercom): the Gorgias alternative for messenger-led brands
Who it is for: companies that run support, sales and commerce through a web and in-app messenger. Intercom rebranded to Fin in 2026, and Fin has been part of Salesforce since September 2026.
Pricing basis: per seat plus outcomes, USD only: Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 per seat per month billed yearly (list prices; the pricing page currently shows Essential at $19 for new customers), plus $0.99 per Fin outcome, which includes Procedure handoffs.
Strengths: native Shopify app, Fin on many channels, Procedures for returns, refunds and order changes with human approval steps. Limits: Procedures created as drafts are reviewed and set live by you; WooCommerce via catalog connector; EU hosting only for new Advanced or Expert workspaces on a contract. More: Sondercase vs. Fin (Intercom).
5. armincx by Chatarmin: the Gorgias alternative from the DACH region
Who it is for: ecommerce brands in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; its WooCommerce page addresses shops from about 100 tickets per month, and its Shopify page puts the business case at about 500 support tickets per month. armincx is the AI service suite of chatarmin.com GmbH, Vienna.
Pricing basis: not published; the pricing page offers a custom plan matched to your ticket volume and setup, and the Shopify page describes a flat rate instead of seat or ticket costs. Concrete prices only after a demo. Migration is an add-on.
Strengths: according to the vendor, the AI cancels, refunds and changes addresses in Shopify and WooCommerce, cancels orders in Shopware, creates return labels with the refund in Shopify, connects DACH systems such as JTL, Xentral and Billbee, and runs on servers in Germany. Limits: no self-serve trial documented for the service suite, and prices only in a demo (a free Shopify chatbot app has existed since 09/2026); phone, social media and marketplaces listed as add-on modules. More: Sondercase vs. Chatarmin.
6. Zendesk: the Gorgias alternative beyond ecommerce
Who it is for: companies of every size and industry that need one helpdesk for several departments.
Pricing basis: per agent plus automated resolutions. On zendesk.de, Suite Team costs €55 per agent per month billed yearly (€69 monthly); each automated resolution beyond the included 5 per agent costs €1.50 committed or €2.00 pay-as-you-go (zendesk.de, 30 October 2026). Since 18 May 2026 Zendesk bills automated resolutions in tiers, so your actual AI cost may differ.
Strengths: broad channels including voice AI agents, large marketplace, EEA data center add-on free from Suite Professional. Limits: Shopify actions are action flows you configure. For WooCommerce, an action-flow connector covers customers, products and order lookup; refunds or cancellations are not documented (as of October 2026). More: Zendesk alternatives.
7. Freshdesk: the Gorgias alternative for a low per-agent entry price
Who it is for: teams that want a general ticketing system for ecommerce and other departments.
Pricing basis: per agent plus AI sessions, in US dollars on freshworks.com: Growth $19, Pro $55, Enterprise $89 per agent per month billed annually (as of 30 October 2026). Every plan includes the first 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions; additional sessions cost $49 per 100. Freshdesk Omni, which adds service across channels, starts at $29 per agent per month billed annually. 14-day free trial.
Strengths: free Freshworks apps give AI agents order actions: “Shopify for AI Agents” covers refunds and cancellations, “WooCommerce for AI Agents” lists 14 AI actions for customers, orders and refunds. You choose an EEA data center at signup. Limits: per-agent pricing plus sessions; store actions come from marketplace apps you install and configure, and a returns portal with labels is not documented on the pages we checked (as of October 2026). More: Sondercase vs. Freshdesk.
8. Re:amaze: the Gorgias alternative with a flat plan for small teams
Who it is for: ecommerce and online businesses that want a shared inbox with live chat, chatbots and an FAQ center.
Pricing basis: per team member, in US dollars: Basic $29, Pro $49, Plus $69 per month ($26.10, $44.10 and $62.10 billed annually), with 5, 10 or 20 AI Agent resolutions per user per month included and $0.85 per additional resolution. A Starter plan costs $59 flat per month for unlimited team members, limited to 500 responded conversations (as of 30 October 2026). 14-day free trial, no credit card.
Strengths: email, live chat, social, SMS and voice in one inbox (SMS and voice from Pro), several brands from Pro, and a Shopify app to “manage, modify, and create Shopify orders” from the conversation. Limits: Re:amaze describes its AI Agent as knowledge-oriented; AI-run refunds, cancellations and a returns portal are not documented on the pages we checked (as of October 2026).
9. Help Scout: the Gorgias alternative for email-first teams
Who it is for: teams whose support runs mostly through email, with chat and messaging added; Help Scout serves many industries, ecommerce among them.
Pricing basis: per user, in US dollars billed annually: Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75 per user per month; monthly billing costs more. AI Answers runs through the Envoy add-on at $0.75 per resolution, with a 3-month free trial. A free plan covers 5 users, 1 inbox and 1 Docs site (as of 30 October 2026).
Strengths: a low entry with the free plan, live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger from Standard, and a Shopify app to “view order status, give refunds, and more, all inside Help Scout”. WooCommerce is listed in its app directory. Limits: the Shopify actions are for your team in the inbox; AI-run store actions and a returns portal are not documented on the pages we checked (as of October 2026).
10. Tidio: the Gorgias alternative for live chat on small stores
Who it is for: small stores whose support starts in the website chat, with pre-sale questions and FAQs.
Pricing basis: free plan; Starter $24.17 per month billed annually for 100 billable conversations, Growth from $49.17, Plus from $300 per month plus usage. The Lyro AI Agent starts at $32.50 per month billed annually for 50 Lyro conversations; every account starts with 50 Lyro conversations once. 7-day free trial of paid plans; all prices in USD (as of 30 October 2026).
Strengths: live chat, Flows chatbots and one inbox for email, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Lyro answers FAQs and order status questions, the Shopify listing names native Shopify actions for the Lyro plan, and WooCommerce product cards can be sent in the chat. Limits: refunds or address updates run as Lyro Actions through APIs you connect, and no returns module is documented on the pages we checked (as of October 2026). More: Sondercase vs. Tidio.
Switching from Gorgias
A switch is mostly planning. Before you cancel, list what lives in your Gorgias account and decide what moves with you:
- Ticket history: decide whether you need old conversations inside the new tool or only as an export for reference, and ask the new vendor what it imports and how far back.
- Macros: turn the replies your team really uses into saved replies or knowledge for the AI, and leave the rest behind.
- Rules and automations: write down every Rule that tags, routes or auto-replies, and rebuild only the ones that still matter.
- Integrations and channels: note every connected app (store, returns, reviews, subscriptions) and every channel (support email forwarding, WhatsApp number, Facebook and Instagram pages), so nothing goes silent on the day you switch.
- Overlap: run both tools side by side for a week or two, and check your Gorgias billing period so you don’t pay twice for longer than needed.
With Sondercase there is no helpdesk migration: you connect your existing support inbox and your store, start in draft mode and switch replies to automatic once they are right.
How to choose between the Gorgias alternatives
If you run WooCommerce, or Shopify in the DACH region, and want post-purchase cases resolved in your store with returns in the same flow, choose Sondercase. Larger Shopify teams that want a seat-based helpdesk with its own returns add-on look at Richpanel, marketplace sellers at eDesk, messenger-led brands at Fin, Shopware or JTL shops at armincx, and multi-department organisations at Zendesk or Freshdesk. Email-first teams compare Help Scout and Re:amaze, and stores whose support starts in the website chat look at Tidio. Gorgias’ own comparison pages also cover Kustomer and Gladly; both lead with a demo rather than a public price list, and Kustomer says it does not post one-size-fits-all pricing (as of October 2026).
Try it on your own store first. Enter your store domain in the Sondercase live demo and it resolves a real support case from public store data, no signup needed. In the 14-day trial, you start in draft mode, so nothing reaches a customer or your store unchecked, and you switch replies to automatic once they are right.
